Benjamín Magaña-Rodríguez studied biology in México, his passion for understanding the complex processes that are shaping nature took him into the adventure to undergo PhD research in New Zealand. Since then, his goal has been to try to register and capture the wonders of nature with his camera. His enthusiasm to be behind the lens has taken him to explore and capture life in the sea as well. From the alpine zone in New Zealand to the coral reefs in Mexico his work represents a rainbow of colours, shapes and patterns of life. His photographs have been utilised in main web sites from New Zealand universities, they have also been used for scientific research on theses from his PhD colleagues.

 

He participated in the footage of an underwater video for the Faculty of Science of his university. He was recently commissioned to record and to photograph threatened fauna from a special location in the Caribbean of Mexico by the National Commission of Protected Areas in Mexico (CONANP).

 

He has won several categories of the British Ecological Society Photographic competition. In 2011 he was the overall winner of the competition and in  2012 he won the overall runner-up .

 

In 2012, one of his photographs was selected for the exposition Mexican Biodiversity (Biodiversidad Mexicana) managed by Mosaico Natura and National Geographic in Spanish. This photograph was pusblished in the National Geographic magazine, Spanish version.
